The Wednesday after our wedding, Tyronne and I made our way up to Canada for a winter trip with his company. My husband (Yes! Now I can officially call him that!) made President’s Club at his job, so the trip this year was to Mont-Tremblant in Quebec! Let me just preface this post by saying that I have never skied or snow boarded before. So going to Canada, we decided that we would do night tubing, possibly dog sledding, and snowmobiling. Well little did we know how cold it would be when we arrived.
Upon arrival, it was around 5 to 6 degrees. Yes, this Miami girl went from 80 degree weather to a 5 degree igloo. Little did I know that by night time, it would be -2 degree. Wow! That is all I can say. For me, I can do 30’s and even 20’s, but anything under 10 degree’s is just too cold for me. Let alone in the negatives. Nothing at that point is enjoyable. But with that being said, we made the best of the trip and decided to relax and enjoy the down time.
The hotel that we stayed at was called the Fairmont Tremblant. It isn’t anything too ritzy or over the top. The entrance kind of reminds me of a cabin (just hotel form), with all wood and a fire place next to the lobby. Our room was simple, yet comfortable. We had a good amount of space and the bed was comfy, which was great because we were able to catch up on a lot of sleep that we missed from entertaining our wedding guests that were in town. One morning, I ordered room service for breakfast and it was delicious!
I have to say, Mont-Tremblant is very touristy, which isn’t really my thing. I like vacationing in large cities where I can discover cute restaurants, cafe’s and stores, but Mont-Tremblant is a resort area geared towards those who are skiing and snowboarding. That being said, we did have some great meals while we were there. We ate a delicious crepe restaurant called Crêperie Catherine, where Tyronne ordered the pepperoni pizza crepe and I, of course, ordered the banana, strawberry and hazelnut spread crepe. Delicious! We also joined his coworkers for a team dinner at a fondue restaurants called La Savoie where we were able to make our own food. It was the first time I had had fondue with salty food like meat, shrimp, potatoes, etc., so I really enjoyed the experience.
One evening, we had a cocktail hour with his coworkers where they gave out awards to those who made President’s club. This cocktail hour was held at the Mont-Tremblant casino, which we took a shuttle to. After the award ceremony and the cocktail hour, Tyronne and I decided to have dinner at the casino restaurant which was called Altitude. The food was very good and we definitely left full. I ordered a steak (which I rarely do) and Tyronne, of course, ordered the chicken dish.
Our second afternoon in Mont-Tremblant, we decided to go to the hotel spa and receive a 50-minute massage. Tyronne had a deep tissue massage that he really enjoyed, and I opted for the therapeutic massage, which was relaxing as well. And finally, on Saturday night, we made our way out into the cold and decided to do night-tubing. Although my feet, hands and face were freezing, it was quite fun! They had two options to tube in: one two seater, and something similar to a small sled for one person. We did the two-seater tubing twice and the sled 3 times. After about an hour of tubing, we made our way back to the hotel, changed really quick for our last night in Mont-Tremblant.
For our last night, we decided to try out a pizza restaurant called Pizzateria. The line was extremely long, but trekking through the cold, we decided to stay and give it a try. Well we were happy we did. Their pizza was very good and it is service as a personal pie, which was nice because we each were able to get what we wanted on our pizza pies. We also ordered some delicious garlic and cheese bread to start, which was amazing! Finally, one thing I highly recommend you order if you ever go to Mont-Tremblant is hot chocolate. Pretty much everywhere we went, Tyronne ordered some and by the last few days, I caught on and started ordering wherever we went as well. It was the perfect compliment to the cold weather.
Overall, this trip came at the perfect time. We really were able to relax after all of the wedding commotion and just enjoy one anothers company. I definitely would recommend Mont-Tremblant and the Fairmont Tremblant if you love skiing, snowboarding or doing any type of winter sports! But for this Miami girl, I think I will stick to tropical weather.
